I saw the special exhibition of
the Renaissance Italian painter, Caravaggio.
Not only his paintings are striking even on the books, the
real paintings are much more profoundly striking. They often have shockingly
directive appeal to those who look at them.
Beautifully painted material textures with allegorical
meanings, strong contrast between lights and shadows, life-like realism of
human characters with vivid theatrical drama. His paintings have the strange,
but powerful blend of the raw realism or sometimes, brutal realism with sacred,
sensual or aesthetic beauty.
He influenced
so many famous painters after him but there has been non-like him.
